Patrick Michael Major

On September 10, 2024, Patrick Michael Major passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Patrick was born on August 14, 1963, to the late Audrey and Thomas J. Major of Sheffield, MA. He attended and graduated from Berkshire School in Sheffield in 1981 and continued his education at the University of Dayton. Patrick returned to New England to complete his education at Western New England College, graduating in 1986 with a B.A. in Business Administration.

From a young age, Patrick loved and excelled in all sports. He played ice hockey, baseball, football, and rugby, notably for Berkshire School, the University of Dayton, and WNEC. After college, Patrick stayed in the Springfield area and joined the Springfield Riffles Rugby team. An avid sports fan, Patrick was devoted to the New England Patriots, often traveling to Foxborough with his father to watch the team.

Patrick's greatest passion was coaching. Whether on the football field, baseball diamond, or ice rink, he loved teaching and mentoring. His boys were his world, and he spent countless hours coaching them and others, earning the nickname "Coach." Patrick spent many weekends traveling across New England to coach or cheer on his boys, cherishing every moment.

When not involved in sports, Patrick enjoyed exploring the U.S. and international destinations. He made many memories traveling with family, sharing stories that often surfaced at family dinners. One of his most recent memorable trips was with his long-time friend Eric to the Saratoga Race Track, where they shared good times and hearty laughs.

Following the loss of his son Kevin J. Major in 2011, Patrick played a key role in organizing the Kevin J. Major Memorial Hockey Tournament, which continues to be held annually every August.

Patrick is now reunited with Kevin and his mother Audrey; may he rejoice and find peace.

Patrick is survived by his father, Thomas J. Major; his sons, Sean Patrick Major (Ashley Major) and Ryan Matthew Major; his stepchildren, Kristen Noel Williams, Corey John Williams (Elizabeth Williams); and his grandchildren, Rylee Grace Benson, Lillian Jane Revere, Hadley Rose Major, and Bria Rose Williams.

Calling hours will be held at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a private funeral to follow on Monday morning. A celebration of life will be announced by the family at a later date.
