Patrick Pierce Murphy, age 78, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, MA. He was born in Cork, Ireland on January 26, 1947, to Patrick and Bridget Murphy. Pat immigrated to the US at 18 and joined the US Air Force six months later. After discharge in 1968 he joined the US Army Reserves. He was a bricklayer by trade, and was elected president of Local 1 Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen until appointed the New England Regional Training Director for the International Masonry Institute where he ran the apprentice tile and masonry training school in West Springfield from 1992 until retirement. Pat was instrumental in creating an exchange program for young apprentices with BATU (Bricklayers and Allied Trade Union) in Ireland. Pat served for 25 years on the Westfield Housing Authority, as Chairman for the last 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 124. Passionate about his Irish heritage he was a long-time member and former president of the Sons of Erin in Westfield and a member of the Sons of Erin in Cape Cod. Pat received awards for his service as Chairman of the Massachusetts Chapter of Northern Aid, including Corkman of the Year, Irishman of the Year and the Patrick F. Hagerty Award for his tireless dedication to the Cause of Irish Freedom. Pat’s most meaningful professional accomplishment was building the 911 memorial at the Sons of Erin, which was dedicated to Tara Shea Creamer, Daniel P. Trant and Brian J. Murphy who perished at the World Trade Center in the Sept 11, 2001 terror attacks. He organized an annual celebration to honor their lives and all lives lost on the anniversary of Sept 11th for 24 years. Pat loved visiting with his children and grandchildren as well as fishing, golfing and traveling to Cape Cod and back home to Ireland. Pat was predeceased by brothers Sean, Noel, Denis and sister Marie. He leaves Diane Sheridan his partner and best friend of 33 years, daughter Kelly and son-in-law Frank Ziencina, son Sean and daughter-in-law Tricia Murphy, daughter Kara and son-in-law Cathal Diver, and daughter Alanna and son-in-law Tony Bell. He leaves several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Philip Glynn, Dr. Francis Murray and Liz for their compassionate care and friendship throughout the years. We would also like to thank all the nurses, staff and friends at the Sister Caritas Cancer Center and Noble Hospital. Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov 7th, 2025 from 4 -7 pm at Firtion Adams Funeral Home 76 Broad St Westfield, MA. Services will be held Saturday Nov 8th, 2025 with visitation at 9 am at Firtion Adams, followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church 127 Holyoke Rd Westfield, MA.
