Phyllis’ story is incomplete without including Alex. They married in 1950 and lived the first 7 years in the Chestnut Hill section of Brookline. After 7 years he made a career change to accept a position with the Strathmore Division of International Paper in Westfield and at retirement was the Executive Host. Alex and Phyllis traveled extensively from the time they married and on retirement spent 17, 6 month winters in Fountain Hills, AZ, where they made new friends. They both retired in 1988, he from International Paper and I from BayBank. They were 35 year members of Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, where Alex had a hole-in-one and another at Longmeadow Country Club. They were members of the First Congregational Church in Westfield. They were on all Holyoke School Reunion committees and members of Class of 1943 Circle of Friends monthly luncheon group. He and Phyllis had 62 wonderful years together when Alex passed away suddenly on Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2012. She leaves her cousin Carolyn and Paul Henneman of S. Hadley, cousin Beverly Ritchea of Athol, MA, Karen Miller of Seal Beach, California, Susan Shipman of Arroyo, California, brother-in-law Perry of Prospect, TN, Alex’s close cousins, Peter and Judith Burhans of Barkhamstead, CT, who were always there for her and Judy was like a sister.
