Raymond Pelletier Obituary

Westfield-Raymond James Pelletier was called safely home on November 12, 2020. He was born in Chicopee, MA to the late James J. Pelletier and Isabelle Graziano. He attended Assumption School in Chicopee and graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA. On December 26, 1951 a young Ray reported for duty to the U.S. Navy volunteering for training on torpedo launchers. He was assigned to the Destroyer U.S.S. Cogswell 651. Over the next 4 years, the Cogswell was assigned to a World Cruise, along with cruises to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. Ray was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #124 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also an active member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks #1849. Ray was employed at Berkshire Industries in Westfield, MA working as Production Control Manager for over 30 years. He enjoyed his job and the comradery with his co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends. Ray loved fishing, hunting and was an avid golfer playing on Berkshire’s golf league. Most important to Ray, was the love of his life, his beloved wife and dancing partner, Florence. Married for 63 years, they shared a passion for ballroom dancing making wonderful friends on the dance floor over the years. They also enjoyed trips abroad and traveling to Florida every year to visit their son, daughter in law and three grandchildren. Ray also loved vacations at the Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit, ME as well as day trips to Yankee Candle in South Deerfield, MA with Florence and their daughter Laurie. Along with his wife he raised two children, Jim and Laurie. He enjoyed watching them graduate college and marry, and they cherished his unconditional love. Ray leaves his wife Florence, son James Pelletier (Christine) and three grandchildren, David, Shannon and Christy (Tom) and daughter Laurie Pelletier Darcy. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Eugene Pelletier, his sister Sandra Machler and his son-in-law Brian Darcy. The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 17th at 11 am in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road in Westfield. Burial will follow with military honors in St. Stanislaus Cemetery 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee. A calling hour will precede the Mass on Tuesday morning at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield from 9:30 till 10:30 am.
