Richard Scott Bari (affectionately known as Ricardo), 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. He was born on March 30, 1941, in New York City to the late Anthony and Mary (Martin) Bari.
Rick is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 12 years, Sophia Bousquet, whom he was blessed to meet later in life. Together, they shared a deep and abiding love. He was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Ruth (Neary) Bari, who passed away in 1990.
He is also survived by his sister, Grace; his cherished children: daughter Robyn Graziano (and her husband, Rocko), daughter Royce McGrath (and her husband, Kevin), and son Todd Bari (and his wife, Kim); his adored grandchildren: Nunzi, Harley, Sydney, Lydia, Mason, Bryce, Chase, and Payne; and his beloved great-granddaughter, Bella.
A graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Rick went on to earn his degree from Pace University. He built a successful career as an investment analyst on Wall Street, driven by a lifelong passion for markets and investing.
After relocating to New England with Ruth, Rick retired from professional life and settled in Amherst, Massachusetts, where they raised their family with a strong focus on education and hard work. While Ruth was the disciplinarian, Rick was known as the fun and easygoing parent. He took great pride in seeing all three of his children graduate from college and launch successful careers—one of his proudest accomplishments.
Following Ruth’s passing, Rick spent more than 20 years as a widower, steadfastly supporting his children in every way imaginable. He prided himself on being a jack of all trades—whether it was helping with home improvement projects, babysitting, dog sitting, or simply running errands, he did it all with a smile and a generous heart. As a grandfather, he was deeply involved and always eager to lend a helping hand.
In 2012, Rick was fortunate to find love again with Sophia, and their life together was filled with joy. They shared a love of shopping, dining out, hosting dinner parties, and above all, a strong Catholic faith that formed the foundation of their relationship. During his battle with prostate cancer, Sophia remained a steadfast source of strength and comfort.
When Rick and Sophia moved to Texas in 2023, he was warmly embraced by Sophia’s extended family, bringing him immense happiness. Though his health declined in recent years, his faith, generosity, love of family, and unwavering goodness endured until the very end.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Enclave in Cedar Park and Suncrest Hospice for their support and care.
Rick will be remembered for his love of bagels, cheese, and pasta; his off-color storytelling; his affectionate nicknames; his deep faith; and his immense pride in his family. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
The funeral for Richard will be on Friday June 13, 2025 at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s name may be made to National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, where he and Sophia spent so much time in joyful prayer. www.firtionadams.com
