Richard Bruneau Obituary

Richard "Rick/Rooster" Bruneau, 67, passed away at home on August 20. Born June 2, 1958, son of the late Gilbert "Gitch" Bruneau and Eleanor (Depew) Bruneau-Petersante, he was a lifelong resident of Westfield. Upon graduating Westfield High, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He went through BUD/S training and joined the elite Navy S.E.A.Ls. where he operated bravely and fiercely in missions around the world from 1976-1981. Returning stateside, he instructed S.E.R.E training in California. After active duty, he joined the Air National Guard and worked at Barnes Airforce Base (104th Fighter Wing) until his retirement in 2011. Rick was an active member of the American Legion Post 124, where he had an amazing group of friends - and no shortage of good times. He was avid sports enthusiast - embracing Boston/New England teams with fervor. He liked playing golf, Harley Davidson motorcycles, cold beer and a good steak. Along with his parents, he is pre-deceased by his step-mother, Patricia (Fletcher) Bruneau; his brother Dale Bruneau and his daughter-in-law Samantha (Wagner) Bruneau. He leaves behind his son, Zachary; his grandson, Ryan; his sister, Linda; and his brothers, Rocky and Wayne and many other friends/extended family. A memorial service will be held for Rick on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 10AM - Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA. The family asks that memorial contributions be made in the form of Random Acts of Kindness to Strangers. www.firtionadams.com
