Richard R. Filley, Jr., 83, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 14, 1941 in Springfield to the late Mildred (Hoag) and Richard R. Filley, Sr. Richard grew up in East Longmeadow and attended Springfield Schools. He went to UCONN for 2 years before starting to work for IBM where he spent 28 years as a field engineer and then Systems Analyst before retiring. He was a member of the Air National Guard at Barnes and was discharged in 1968. He also spent a few years with the Auxiliary Police in Chicopee while living there. Richard married Constance Budd in 1968 and were married for 56 years. They moved from Chicopee to Westfield in 1982. Richard started his own business, Filley and Son Stump Grinding after his retirement. He enjoyed camping in his spare time and tinkering in his wood shop. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Constance B. (Budd) Filley, his loving children Richard “Rick” R. Filley, III and Lisa Bailey of Southwick, his grandchildren, Ashleigh Potts and her husband Nate, Shauna Rash and her husband Bobby and Juliana Bregoli and his 8 great grandchildren. All services for Richard were private and he was buried in Forestdale West Cemetery, Holyoke.
