Richard "Mitch" John Mitchell, 87, passed away peacefully March 2, 2026 in Inverness, Florida after a brief illness. He was born February 15, 1939 in Beckett, MA to the late Richard G Mitchell and Leonora (Harris) Mitchell. He attended high school in Chester, Ma. Then went on to study electrical engineering in Boston. From there, he taught briefly at Westfield Vocational High School, worked in the field for many years and then taught electrical engineering at Chicopee Comprehensive High School retiring in 1997. Mitch enjoyed spending his retirement years walking every day, golfing, especially with his brother, York Mitchell, biking, kayaking, hiking, going to museums, keeping track of the family tree, amongst various other activities. He loved spending his winters at his home in Inverness, Florida where he loved spending time with many friends and family. Mitch is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elizabeth (Andras) Mitchell of Westfield, MA, daughter Amanda (Amiee) Mitchell of Westfield, MA, son Jeffrey Mitchell of Greenville, SC, two grandchildren, Pamela Noble and Joe Mitchell both of Pittsfield, MA. Great granddaughter, Eleanor Noble, 2, of Pittsfield, MA, who he adored. Stepchildren, James LaCroix of Westfield, MA, Carolyn (Carrie) Kennedy and David of Westfield, MA, Joanne Burnette and Rocky of Chicopee, MA, 8 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. He is preceded by his first wife, Marian (Dean) Mitchell, wife of 42 years, brother, James Mitchell, sister, Leonora (Mitchell) Beckage, sister, Janice (Mitchell) Rice and stepson, Michael LaCroix. Mitch will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. Visiting hours will be held at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA 01085 from 11:00am-1:00pm on Friday April 10th with a Memorial Service beginning at 1:00pm In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider donations to: The Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
