Ricky Gibbons Obituary

Ricky James Gibbons, 61, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2021 in the Heritage Hall South at Agawam, MA. He was born on April 27, 1959 in Noble Hospital in Westfield to Harold Melvin Gibbons and Jessie Mae (Phillips) Gibbons from Southwick, MA. He attended the Westfield Vocational Technical High School. As a teenager he worked on the tobacco field and would often work alongside his father at Prifti Motors, Inc. and Ken Fife’s Auto Service. In 1979 at 20 years old he was enlisted in the Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged after completing boot camp and basic training. He also worked for a logging company Uptown in Massachusetts and worked at Columbia Bicycle for many years and at Comcast as a stock clerk. He was an active energetic man right up until the end. You could find him either driving, walking, and biking all over town, as he enjoyed the great outdoors. He was an avid animal lover, enjoyed nature, repairing bikes for family, friends and neighbors. He never missed attending a single Memorial Day of Veteran’s Day parade. His indoor interests were playing billiards, playing cards, playing quarters, board games, dancing and attending family get-togethers and major family events. He was very passionate about “the classics”. Everything from classic car/truck shows, and collectible diecast muscle cars and trucks he possessed. He loved listening, singing and dancing to classic oldies 50’s, 60’s 70’s and classic rock. He was a huge fan of professional wrestling (WWF/WWE) and Monster Jam (Monster Truck Series). He had a huge collection of valuable antiques that he purchased from flea markets and thrift shops. Being of Italian decent, his favorite food was Italian foods. His favorite meals were homemade spaghetti and meatballs, potato gnocchi, lasagna, meatball subs and hamburg, onion, and mushroom pizza. His family, friends, neighbors and former employees will forever remember him fondly for his love, caring and kindness, hardworking, generosity and his overwhelming sense of humor. He was predeceased by his sister Darlene D. Gibbons, his parents Harold M. Gibbons, Jessie M. Gibbons, his brother Gary M. Gibbons and granddaughter Angel Gilmore. He leaves behind the mother of his beloved children, Paula Allen, his two beloved daughters Karrie M. Gilmore (Fred), Stephanie Gibbons and his son Michael Gibbons. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, five granddaughters and two grandsons. He leaves behind his younger brothers, Brian P. Gibbons (Laurie), Gil Mejias (Maryjane) and Ronald (Ronnie) J. Gibbons. He leave his uncle and aunts, Kenneth Phillips (Marilyn), Russell Phillips (Venita), many cousins, six nieces, and four nephews. He leaves behind a lifelong family friend Wilma Williams.
