Robert Madison Obituary

Robert R. 'Bob' Madison passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2026. He was born in Germantown Philadelphia, PA on June 21, 1943, the son of the late Walter J. Madesky and Marion E. (Morris) Madesky. Raised in Russell, MA. He was a graduate of Westfield High School, received a degree in Engineering from the University of Hartford, a degree in Business from American International College and an MBA from Western New England College. Bob was a retiree from Pratt & Whitney, Division of United Technologies where he worked in Engineering and in the Financial Department. He also retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an Examiner for the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission. In his retirement, he enjoyed working with historical societies of Agawam, Southwick and Westfield. He enjoyed writing and researching historical books about the local area. Throughout his career, he served his community in many ways. He was a member of Westfield's Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a long-time resident of Longmeadow, MA he served the Boy Scouts of America in many positions including Scoutmaster of Troop 90. He was always proud of the number of Eagle Scouts in Troop 90. Bob liked camping and hiking and was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club. An avid sailor, he sailed throughout Long Island Sound and Cape Cod. He was a past Commodore of the Pioneer Valley Yacht Club and an Officer of the Schennecossett Yacht Club in Groton, CT. He was a long-time member of the Agawam Art Council as a watercolorist and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard AUX serving as a Commander in Westfield. Bob taught the USCG AUX's Boating Safety & Seamanship at Westfield State for many years. As a 37-year member of the Porsche Club of America, he enjoyed restoring and driving classic cars. He leaves his best friend and loving wife of 60 years, Mary (Lewicki) Madison. Mary and Bob were neighbors when they were three years old in what was then called the 'Beehive' in Woronoco, MA. They met again in Westfield where Mary was a student at St. Mary's High School. Bob has two loving children: Eric Madison and his wife Brandy of Monson MA and Michelle Packowski and her husband Steve of Hampstead, NH. Bob was predeceased by two sons, Kevin Madison and Glenn Madison and his brother Thomas Madison. Bob also leaves a sister Joyce Miller of Longmeadow, five grandchildren, Joshua and Christopher Madison, Michael, Kristina and Joseph Packowski. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Bob’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, with visiting hours from 9-11AM in Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA 01085, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon in Sacred Heart Parish, 1061 Springfield St. Agawam, MA 01030. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. www.firtionadams.com
