Sabato P. “Sam” Mottola, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in San Giorgio del Sannio, Italy to the late Giacomo and Maria Vingenza (Barone) Mottola and immigrated to the United States at the age of 24. Sam was employed by Stanley Home Products for 28 years as a brush maker. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a longtime member of the Italian Club. Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elvira (Iarrusso) Mottola, his four loving children, Giacomo Paul Mottola and his wife Lynda of Chicago, Anna Maria Morassi and her husband Michael of Agawam, Mark Mottola and his wife Julie of Westfield, Michael Mottola of Westfield and his six cherished grandchildren, Justine, Anthony, Marissa, Christopher, Brody and Kathryn. He is also survived by his sister Rosa Mottola of Westfield and brother Maurizio Mottola and his wife Adele of Italy and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Anna Colicchio of Italy. Sam loved his family Saturday night dinners. He enjoyed making homemade wine, sausage and spending time in his garden. He loved spending his summers in Italy with his wife and family. A Funeral Mass for Sam will be held on Saturday July 25, at 11:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St. Westfield followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield.
