Sandra Carboneau Obituary

Sandra Lee Carboneau (Oleksak) age 76 passed away after a long illness July 9, 2020 at Heritage Hall East in Agawam, MA. Born in Westfield, MA February 14, 1944 and longtime resident of Westfield before moving to Southampton, MA. Survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Gerald Carboneau. She was the daughter of the late Ann Martin and Andrew Oleksak and sister of the late Rosemary Moriarty. She is survived by 3 sons, Brian Carboneau and his wife Arline Balekdjian of Littleton, MA, Mark Carboneau and his wife Karin Seipel of Westfield, MA and Stephen Carboneau of North Granby, CT. She is also survived by her daughter Cheryl Carboneau of Simsbury, CT and sisters Irene McGlone and husband Doug of Carlsbad, CA and Frances Hartsell of Encinitas, CA, Daughter-In-Law Abigail (Ford) Carboneau and Son-In-Law Jack Carty. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Jacob Carboneau, Julia Carboneau, Jacqueline Carboneau, Alexandra Carty, John Carty, Jerry Carboneau, Sophie Carboneau, Garrett Carboneau and Evan Carboneau. After graduation from St. Mary’s High School, she attended nursing school at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA. She was most proud of her care for patients who had experienced injuries that caused long term paralysis. She later became a stay at home mother caring and raising her 4 children and then returned to work part time for 17 years at Cork and Bottle Package Store and volunteered at Holyoke Hospital. In 1969 Sandra and Gerald bought lake front property and built a house on Otis Reservoir in the Berkshires. This home became and still is a cherished location to spend time with friends and family doing the outdoor activities that shaped the love the family has for boating, hunting, fishing, and hiking. Sandra would spend the summers on the lake with her children while her husband would make the daily commute back and forth from his business at Westfield TV and Appliance on Meadow Street. Sandra also loved the Christmas Holiday Season, decorating her home and having the entire family over every year on Christmas Eve as a tradition right up through this past year. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
