Stephen Lucas passed away peacefully at home on Friday June 24th. Stephen was born in Westfield, MA to Stephen W. Lucas Sr. and Sophia (Pitoniak) Lucas and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Westfield Vocational Technical High School in 1963 and took courses at WNEC and Springfield Technical Community college to further his career as an Engineer. Steve worked for National Metals Industries for 30 years and as a valued employee he was able to work his way up to Engineering Supervisor in 5 short years. Over the span of his career, he held various engineering positions after National Metals closed, most recently at Tyco until his retirement in 2010. Steve was a lifelong parishioner of St. Peter’s and St. Casimir Parish and was dedicated to his religion. He was an alter server in his youth and a Parish Council and Financial Council member for the church in adulthood. Steve was a known problem solver and even held a patent for an improved mop design that is used to this day. He loved cars, could fix anything, and could be seen cruising in his Mustang right up until this past Memorial Day. However, Steve’s greatest joy was in being a father and grandfather. He helped his kids with anything they needed, from building a first car to making major home improvements. He would do anything for the people he loved. Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Shirley (Babinski) Lucas, his sons Barre and wife Karen of Huntington, and Chris and wife Kelly of Westfield. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren Addie, Kai, Emerson, Charlie, Patrick, and Daniel who will miss their Poppy dearly. He was predeceased by his parents and by his son Cory Lucas. Calling hours will be on Friday, July 1st from 4-7pm at Firtion Adams with a funeral Mass at 10 am on Saturday, July 2nd at St. Peters & St. Casimirs Church on State St. followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Southampton Rd.
