Terrence Crean Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Terrence "Terry" Crean of Middlefield, MA, who left this world peacefully at home on August 28, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on October 2, 1945, in Westfield, MA, Terry was a beacon of kindness, warmth, and resilience throughout his 80 years.

Terry was the beloved son of the late Timothy Crean and Elizabeth (Bradshaw) and brother to the late Jack and Patricia (Alger). He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Kathleen (Leno), whose love and partnership were the cornerstone of his life. Terry was a cherished father to Amy Kennedy and her husband, Kevin of Auburn, MA,  and a proud Grampy to Declan, Owen, Colin, and Ella Kennedy. His extended family includes his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ric and Kathy Leno, Tony and Anna Leno,   many nieces and nephews, and also close friends who fondly remember his gentle spirit and generous nature.

A dedicated learner and educator, Terry graduated from Westfield High School and furthered his studies at Westfield State College, earning both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's degree. His thirst for knowledge took him to the University of Oregon, where he achieved a Master's in Administration. Terry's passion for education led him to begin his career as a 6th-grade teacher in Russell, MA. He served the Gateway Regional School District as a School Psychologist and Counselor, and later in Alaska, where he retired as the Director of Special Education for the Lake and Peninsula School District. He ended his professional career as a School Psychologist in Chicopee, MA.  His commitment to nurturing young minds and supporting their growth left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Terry found joy and peace in activities like hiking, canoeing, and puttering around his log home, embracing the natural world with the same enthusiasm he brought to his work and family life. His sense of humor, honesty, and kindness were hallmarks of his personality, inspiring those around him to live by Emerson’s quote: "Be Silly, Be Honest, Be Kind."

A service to celebrate Terry's remarkable life will be held on September 3, 2026, at Firtion Adams in Westfield, MA.  Calling hours are from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a service at 6:30 PM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Middlefield, MA Volunteer Fire Department, reflecting Terry's spirit of community and service.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Western & Central Massachusetts for the kind and gentle care they gave Terry in his final days.

Though Terry is no longer with us, his legacy of love, laughter, and learning continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. www.firtionadams.com
