Thomas J. Denton, 59, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side on the morning of Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
Tom received his Bachelor in Education from Westfield State University and Master of Education- Mathematics from Lesley University in Cambridge. Tom was a devoted Math teacher at Agawam Junior High for 19 years. He also served as Union President, mentor, and coach (golf, baseball, & hockey). He touched the lives of everyone he knew in unforgettable ways. “Mr. D” had a rare gift for blending his love of teaching with his passion for sports—often explaining math concepts with a golf putter in hand.
Golf was more than a game to Tom; it was a way to connect, encourage, and inspire. He championed youth involvement and proudly started the first intramural golf program for junior high students, which always had an incredible turnout. His impact reached far beyond the classroom, and he will be deeply missed by teachers, students, friends, and the golf community.
Tom loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, golfing, coaching. The woods were his element, the place where he felt most alive, most at peace, and most connected to nature and his Creator. Sundays on the golf course were sacred to him, complete with a special playlist of Christian songs he loved. In his final days, it was that same music he asked to have playing in his room—a reflection of a life rooted in faith.
Thomas is survived by his cherished wife of 33 years, Tori (Bartlett) Denton of Westfield, his loving children, Troy Denton of Westfield and Tristin (Denton) Bennett and her husband Grayson of Westfield. He is survived by his brothers Brian (Roberta) Denton of Pawtucket, RI, Scott (Tracey) Denton of Wareham, MA, and John (Savannah) Denton of Las Vegas, NV, his long time friend/ brother-in-law Clem (Tammie) Arsenault of Charleston, SC and many close friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Joan (Shepard) Denton, his grandmothers Edith (Dimeo) Shepard and Mary (Armanetti) Denton as well as his in-laws Robert & Jacquelyn Bartlett.
