Virginia Baker Obituary

Virginia E. “Ginny” Baker, 96, formerly of Westfield, Mass., and West Hartford, Conn., died Jan. 22 in Syracuse, NY.

Ms. Baker was a native of Westfield, the daughter of Oscar C. and Beatrice Squier Baker. She was a 1945 graduate of Westfield High School and a 1949 graduate of Brown University. Ms. Baker was employed with Traveler’s Insurance Co. in Hartford for many years before retiring as an underwriter. She resided in West Hartford during her working years. After retirement, Ms. Baker returned to Westfield in 1997, living at Stony Hill Condominiums before moving to Syracuse in 2019 to be near her nephew.

While living in West Hartford, she was a member of the Unitarian Church of West Hartford. In Westfield, she was a member of the Second Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir.

Her brother, Harry S. Baker of Westfield, died in 2009.

Surviving are her nephew, Robert A. Baker of Jamesville, NY; a grandniece, Alexis Baker of Colorado; and several cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Second Congregational Church of Westfield. Burial will follow in the family plot in Pine Hill Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.
