Walter C. Szczepanik, Jr.

Walter C. Szczepanik Jr., 85, of West Suffield, CT, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026. He was born on June 29, 1941, in Springfield, MA, to the late Walter and Arline (Arel) Szczepanik. At just 17 years old, Walt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, beginning four years of service that sparked a lifelong passion for aviation. He later continued his service with two years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. For 50 years, Walt proudly owned and operated Quarry Truck Company & Landscape Supply in Southwick, MA. He was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering integrity, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. When Walt wasn’t at work, he could often be found on his beloved farm, feeding the animals, making repairs, and caring for the property he loved. His passion for flying led him to earn his pilot’s license, and he enjoyed flying small aircraft from a runway he maintained in the farm’s pasture. For the last 21 years of his life, Walt shared a loving partnership with Mary Svedine. Together, they enjoyed companionship, laughter, and the many adventures life had to offer. Walt leaves behind his beloved daughters, Wendy Meyer and her husband, Stephen; Wells Lindeland; and Welby Szczepanik; his daughter-in-law, Holly Szczepanik; his son-in-law, Thomas Cowey; his sister, Judy Graham and her husband, Philip; as well as his loved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Wayne Szczepanik; his daughter, Weatherly Cowey; and his son-in-law, Collin Lindeland. Walt will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, love of family, and, as he liked to say, being “Damn near perfect.” A private service will be held with family and loved ones.
