Wayne Vangsness Obituary

Wayne Douglas Vangsness, 87, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2025.

Wayne was born in the Bronx, New York on July 12, 1938. He was in the U.S. Air Force for four years, honorably discharged in 1960. He attended AIC in Springfield, MA earning a BA in Economics. He worked for Uniroyal as a Labor Relations Supervisor and at National Metal as a Personnel Manager, retiring in 2001.

Wayne was a Freemason for over 50 years. He was a Past Master of Longmeadow Lodge and Past District Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He was also an active member of the Melha Shrine and a Past President of the Directors Association.

Wayne was an active member of Agawam Congregational Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and on several committees. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and traveling, and in his later years especially enjoyed taking cruises.

He was predeceased by his parents George Vangsness and Adelaide (Conley), Harriett Vangsness (stepmother), and his brothers Stuart Vangsness and Kenneth Vangsness. He leaves Barbara (Swiatek) Vangsness, his wife of 63 years, his children Karen Prelovsky (Tom), Mark Vangsness, and Todd Vangsness, and granddaughter Rebecca Vangsness. He also leaves his sister Deborah Futral (John).

Donations may be made in memory of Wayne to Shriners Hospital for Children or Agawam Congregational Church. The family will hold a private service in the future. www.firtionadams.com
