William D. Murphy, 94, passed away at home after a courageous 12-year battle with leukemia. He was born in Westfield, MA to the late Joseph and Josephine (Falcetti) Murphy. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and a 1950 graduate of American International College in Springfield earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Bill served his country with the United State Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1946 as a Staff Sergeant. He was an aerial gunner with the A20 “Grim Reapers” and later with the P-61 Night Fighters in the Pacific. Bill was employed as a corporate officer in various George Vadnais and K-V Homes enterprises in the construction and real estate field for 30 years. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty O. Murphy and his son Steven D. Murphy. He is survived by his daughters, Maureen Murphy with Mike of Pinehurst, NC and Sharon L. Petitt and her husband Charles of Westfield, his sister Elizabeth Johnson of Hadley, MA, and his brother Francis Murphy and his wife Ruth of Westfield, two grandchildren, Shannon Towse (Nathaniel) and Chelsea Berchulski (Benjamin), along with three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryan and Breyden. Bill and Betty loved to travel, especially their yearly trips to Las Vegas. Bill and his family’s home away from home of Washington, VT was where he could enjoy his beloved outdoor activities.
