William J Smithies, Sr.

William J. Smithies, Sr., born on January 23, 1958, in Holyoke to the late Albert L. and Eleanor C. (Paro) Smithies, passed away peacefully on Monday September 30, 2024. A graduate of Westfield Vocational High School, Class of 1976, Bill worked at Jen Coat for 42 years, dedicating much of his life to his career as a manager before retiring. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice Smithies, his high school sweetheart and the one love of his life. Together, they built a life full of family, love and treasured memories.

Bill was a longtime member of St. Anne's Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. He is survived by his three children: William Smithies Jr., David Smithies and his wife Marissa, and Laura Smithies and her husband Matthew Detka. His five grandchildren — Sophia Rose, Caleb William, Scarlett Loren, Michael David, and Jax Thomas — were the greatest joys of his life.

Bill will be laid to rest alongside Alice at St. Mary's Cemetery in Westfield on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 1 PM. www.firtionadams.com
