In 1970 I was an only child living with my mother, the following year my mother remarried and I inherited 5 brothers and a sister. That same year my father Robert married Michaels mother Norma, which added four more new brothers, Steven , Richard, Michael, and Don Smith. Being an only child who always got his way and the center of attention, instantly became lonely , scared and left with a feeling of abandonment. ( Although through the years I'm closest to his brother Don ) It was Michael, who would take me aside and talk to me alone. We would go to places together, whether it was for ice cream going to the beach, teaching me how to ride a motorcycle or just sitting in his car as he introduced me to the classic rock and roll of the 1970s. I say this, because of Michael's kind and caring demeanor for others and especially to me, I was no longer an only child I was now Michael's little brother. Thank You Michael, because of you, when asked, I don't say I have 9 step-brothers and a step-sister, The word "STEP" is no longer in my vocabulary except maybe when the elevator is out or in case of a fire. Lol.

Hi Jon,

I'm Mike's daughter. This was really beautiful to read, and it meant a lot to me. I wish my dad had kept in touch, and I'm sure he thought of you often. I met your father about 17 or 18 years ago when I was around 11, and he was such a sweet man. I'll always remember how he fell asleep on his knees. When I started college in 2005, he generously bought a laptop for me since we couldn't afford it.

I hope you are well.

Cindy, Ryan, and Deidre,
Mike was a great, generous guy with a fantastic sense of humor.
He was a very good friend, and we will miss him very much.
