Francis Hopkins Obituary

It is with heavy heart that we announce the death of our husband, father and friend. Francis Hopkins peacefully passed in the early hours of October 15, 2019 at his home in the arms of his wife Ginna after many years of courageously battling cancer. Fran was born April 28, 1949 in Pittsfield, MA to Raymond and Irene (Fillio) Hopkins. He was raised in Dalton, MA graduating from Wahconah Regional High School in 1968. He enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served his country until 1972 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then returned to Dalton where he married Sue Clark and together they had three children. After his military service, Fran spent his professional career as a construction foreman for various construction companies including Crestview Construction in Southwick, MA. Everyone knew he was a firm believer in having strong work ethic. To Fran, a job not done properly was a job not done. Fran never met a stranger, he could easily strike up a conversation with anyone about the Red Sox, Corvettes, construction projects and of course, music. Fran enjoyed spending time with his countless friends and loved hosting parties and picnics at his and Ginna’s home. Fran’s passion for music was like no other. When you saw Fran, you heard country music playing and him singing along-he knew every word, every artist, and every writer of every song. We are sure he has already met with Marty Robbins! As you are remembering Fran, he requests that you grab a beer, sit back and listen to “A Farewell Party” Fran is survived by his wife of 23 years Virginia “Ginna” (Frisbie) Hopkins. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his three children Christopher Hopkins of CT and Matthew & his wife Angie Hopkins of GA, Amanda & husband Richard Stigberg of NY, grandchildren Hanna & Kyle Avery, Jessica Hill & Mayson Hopkins, Zachary & Brianna Hopkins, and great granddaughter Astoria Hopkins. He leaves his brother Edwin (Carla) Hopkins of MO, David (Mary) Hopkins and sister Sandra Hopkins of Dalton, MA. He leaves his sister in law Nancy Frisbie and Betsy Converse who truly loved his as a brother. He also leaves Pam, Ricky, Bob &Joe who were very devoted to their wonderful friend and uncle; countless friends and family and of course his girls Kitty and Skeeter. Besides his parents, Fran was predeceased by his sister Bernice Steele and his brothers Norman, George and Walter Hopkins. Services for Fran will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam on Monday October 21, 2019 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers Fran requests that donations be made to Wreaths Across America.org. firtionadams.com
