Mary Naro Obituary

WESTFIELD – Mary Margaret Naro, 71, was taken suddenly from the loving arms of her heartbroken family on September 4, 2018. The dearly-loved first daughter of Thomas and Mary (Giblan) Thompson, Mary was born on December 30, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, in the same hospital as her loving husband of 39 years, Vincent J. “Vinny” Naro. Mary is also survived by her beloved sons, Anthony J. Naro and his wife, Kristina Talevi, and their child, Mary’s cherished granddaughter, Bianca, all of Brookline, and Thomas V. Naro and his fiancée, Melissa Goyette, of Southwick. Mary’s life was defined by her belief in God’s goodness, her deep love of her family, her tremendous pride in her sons, Anthony and Tom, and the great joy she found in spending time with her wonderful little granddaughter, Bianca. Mary’s tender heart, boundless patience and great compassion for everyone she met, was evident in her every thought, word, and deed. She was a wife, mother, nurse, sister, and friend. But more than that, she was a living symbol of peace and love in a turbulent world. Mary grew up in Manchester, CT, graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford, attended Emmanuel College in Boston and graduated from Westfield State (College) University with a degree in elementary education. She taught in greater Springfield Catholic schools before making a career change to become a nurse. She attended Holyoke Hospital Nursing School and was awarded a full scholarship to Holyoke Community College to earn an Associate’s degree in science - nursing. Her career in nursing spanned more than 40 years at Holyoke Hospital, now Holyoke Medical Center. Mary also will be deeply missed by her sisters Elizabeth Walker and Homer of Chatham, their children, Ben Walker and Harron Walker; and Joan and Peter Levinson of Waterford, CT, as well as her sisters-in-law, Dianne and Anthony Testa of Franklin Square, NY, their children, Philip Testa, and Neil Testa and his wife Dina and their children, Troy and Clair of Oceanside, NY; and Candida Naro and Robert Norman and their children, Scott Naro-Norman and his children, Stella and Luke, all of Spanish Fork, AL; and Michael Naro-Norman, his wife Kelly Ann, and their children, Brandon and Logan, of Riveredge, NJ. Predeceased by her beloved godmother “Aunt Peggy,” her mother’s twin, and her uncle Eugene “Pat” McHugh, Mary leaves to mourn her aunt Helen Heelan (Dan) of Limerick, Ireland, uncle David Tuohy (Joanie) of NJ, and their families, and her uncle Francis “Pat” Ford, of East Longmeadow, as well as many cousins, Patrick J. McHugh (MaryLou Tew), Margaret McHugh Raftery, Laurel Ford Smith (Russell), Kathleen Ford, Patrick Ford (Elizabeth) and the Power cousins in Canada.
