Barbara A. (Smith) Hirtle

Barbara A. Hirtle, 81, of Westfield died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 2, 1937 in Quincy, Ma to Frederick and Jennie (O’Leary) Smith. Barbara moved to Westfield from Buzzards Bay where she resided from 1979 to 1998. She was employed most recently as a bus monitor for Lecrenski Bus Company in Westfield retiring in 2010. Prior to that she worked as an assembler at H.L. Bounton in Buzzards Bay and as an administrative assistant to Overhead Door Co. of Cape Cod and Southeastern Overhead Door. Barbara also had a position as a switchboard operator at Sigma and waitress at The Plaza in North Quincy. Barbara enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casino, playing the lottery and spending time with her family. She especially loved her dogs Lady, Doc and Jackson, who loved eating her lunch. She is predeceased by her husband of forty-one years Elbert F. Hirtle. Barbara leaves her children Christopher Hirtle and his wife Ellen of Russell, Ma. Raymond Caplice of Jacksonville, Fla and Kathryn Caplice of Marston’s Mills, Ma. David Caplice and his wife Janet of Jefferson, GA. Six grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Hirtle, Andrew, Nicholas, Thomas and Samantha Caplice, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral with interment in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam will be at the convenience of the family.
