Harold T. Klem

Harold Klem, 84 passed away March 25 with the love of his life by his side, at home.  Born in Ware, Massachusetts to Peter and Anna (Adomaitis) Klem on October 18, 1939.  Harold was a kind, gentle soul.  He attended High School in Santee, CA and Barre High School Barre, MA.  He joined the USAF on February 12, 1958.  He wanted a “flying job and to see the world” – and got both.  15 of his 20 years he was stationed in Europe.  His first mission after finishing Radio Op School was tours in the 67th Air Rescue Squad at Prestwick, Scotland.  One Spec assignment (NATO) in Vicenga Italy on the General’s flightcrew.  67th and 3 other sqand with rescue ops from the Atlantic Ocean to Africa and Indian Ocean, from North Pole to South Pole.  And many, many more missions around the world.  He loved the Air Force and retired in June, 1978.  Before retiring he got back together with his childhood sweetheart and married her on February 14, 1978 at Elin AFB.  Harold is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sandra (Metcalf-Whalley).  His children Alison Connart and her husband Davin Destin, FL, Son Douglas (Gwen) Klem of FL, daughter-in-law Jan Tuttle Crestview, FL, stepsons Thomas Whalley  Mad Beach, FL, Jack (Tammy)Whalley Ware, MA, and Edward (Sarah) Whalley West Springfield.  To his stepsons they loved him like a father.  His siblings Al Klem, Wisconsin, sister Ruth (Sam) Thompson Wheel Wright, MA, 7 grandchildren and 5 greats – as well as nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.  Harold was predeceased by his oldest son, Gary P. Klem, his brother Leo R. Klem and his parents Peter and Anna Klem.  Visiting hours will be held at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield on Thursday, April 4 from 4-7 PM.  A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 5 at 10 AM in Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware, MA.  www.firtionadams.com
