James Poulin Obituary

James R. Poulin, 60, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. He was born in Westfield to the late Constance (Smith) and Robert D. Poulin, Sr. and had attended Westfield Schools. Jimmy worked with the Work Opportunity Center and as a service clerk for Big Y Supermarket in Westfield for over 20 years.  He enjoyed reading, writing, bowling, board games, cards, old TV shows, video games and Harry Potter and other action movies, and all kinds of music, especially the Beatles and Celtic Thunder. Jimmy also like to collect baseball cards and was interested in the history of the Titanic. He was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan and had an extensive collection of T-shirts and hats to prove it. One of Jimmy's passions, which his siblings always looked forward to, was the long list of gifts he presented to them when it was his birthday or at Christmas time. In prior years, he belonged to the Outreach Team and the Westfield Self Advocacy Group where he held the position of President for two terms. He was also a member of the Westfield YMCA where he participated in water aerobics for many years always telling other participants how the aerobics should be done. Jimmy was very athletic and was part of the local Special Olympic teams for many sports. In 1990 his team, the Hampden County Red Wings, was part of the national Olympics competition where the team won a Gold Medal in floor hockey. Jimmy was a happy, witty, loving man who made friends with all. He was very well known by many in Westfield. He loved his family and was very proud of his Irish heritage and will be missed by all who knew him. Jimmy is survived by his siblings, Robert D. Poulin, Jr of Westfield, David E. Poulin of Easthampton, Constance P. Hosmer of Southwick, Nancy A. Maynard of Westfield and Donna J. Jones of Manchester, N.H. and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother John L. Poulin. A Funeral Service for Jimmy will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11AM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Western Ave. Westfield. Visiting hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at 949 Stony Hill Rd.
