Lorraine J. (Laporte) Majka, 78, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation in South Hadley, MA. Born in Westfield, daughter of the late Gerald and Helen (Kondrat) Laporte, she grew up in Westfield and was a graduate of Westfield High School and Westfield State University. She moved to Ludlow in 1976.
Following Lorraine’s retirement from McKesson Corporation, she worked as a substitute teacher for Belchertown Public Schools. She was very active in her church, St. Elizabeth in Ludlow, including serving as a lector. She was also active in local politics serving as the Secretary for the Ludlow Republican Town Committee. Lorraine loved candle pin bowling and Scrabble. She was a member of the Northampton Scrabble Club and would compete in many tournaments throughout the northeast.
Lorraine is survived by her two sons and their wives, Wayne and Angela Majka of Feeding Hills, MA, and David and Susan Majka of Chapin, SC; four grandchildren, Abbey, Erica, Skye, and Hunter Majka; and brother and his wife, Robert and Regina Laporte of Sterling, MA.
Lorraine’s family meant the world to her, especially her grandchildren. She made regular visits to South Carolina to spend quality time and take walks with Skye and Hunter. She attended Abbey and Erica’s many softball games, Girl Scout functions, and school activities.
Calling hours for Lorraine will be on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 from 10-11 AM in Firtion-Adams Funeral Services, 76 Broad St, Westfield, MA; followed by a funeral home service at 11AM in the funeral home.
