Richard Holloway Obituary

Richard E. Holloway, 75, of Westfield, MA, passed away peacefully on November 15th after a long illness. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Richard managed his illness with strength and grace. He resided at The Soldier’s Home in Holyoke, MA for the past 5 years where he received wonderful care from an amazing staff who fondly cared for him. Richard was born in Gideon, MO in 1946 to Lillie and Chester Holloway, who both passed in 1956. Richard's 2nd parents were his older brother and sister-in-law Luther and Wanda Holloway, now both deceased. Aside from being survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Veronique "Nicky" Gosselin, he leaves a son, David, daughters Darcie and her husband Jeffrey Leadbeater, Linsey, and her husband Bryan Bernard. Also, he leaves his beloved Grandson, Ryley Holloway and his brother Ron Holloway and sister Carolyn Babinski. Richard graduated high school with honors in 1965 from Westfield Trade School and later graduated from Holyoke Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. From 1965-1969 he proudly served in the US Air Force as a fireman, earning the rank of sergeant. While stationed in Taiwan he achieved a black belt in Karate. In 1970 he graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy. He was then stationed in the Lee and Westfield barracks as a patrolman and accident reconstructionist. Richard retired from the Massachusetts State Police after 31 years of distinguished service. Being a kind and dependable husband, father, and friend was of the utmost importance to Richard and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. He was a strong man with a quiet demeanor. He never complained or had a bad word to say. He best showed his love by helping others. He loved a good laugh and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Richards’s funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1PM in the Firtion Adams FS, 76 Broad St. Westfield followed by burial in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Everett St. Easthampton. A Visiting hour will precede the service from 12-1PM in the funeral home.
